I have to say it is super strange how they look so nice in person and then the pictures just don't do the cards justice. Just trust me - Shauna makes BEAUTIFUL!!!! cards. Well, it seems that it has been forever since I posted. Since Christmas, my life has been almost overwhelming. So, needless to say I am just looking to get back at crafting. The weather is incredibly cold here right now, so what better to do and cuddle up in my craft room and create...Hope to be posting soon!!!!

Birthday Invitations

I can't believe how fast time goes. A little over a week ago I was scrambling to get everything finished and now here I am finally getting a chance to relax a little. In amongst all the hustle and bustle of Christmas is my daughter's birthday. Even though we celebrate with family we keep her party for after Christmas. This was the invitation that I made for her 5 friends who are coming. Obviously I used the Cricut and am really impressed with how they turned out. The back is just computer printed on white paper with all the details.

I can't believe how fast Christmas has snuck up on me. I am generally ready by mid November only leaving the last minute items for - well - last minute. This year I am truly behind. I make a calendar every year for my 96 year old Nanny and my mom. This year however I am doing 3 extras for a couple of additions to our family this year. Yeah, I have only done 2 so far.....I am also making bird feeders for my mom and allowing each child to make one. This will take me 3 days as I only have 1 container to do the shaping. Plus I have 2 more glass blocks to make along with sorting and wrapping all the gifts. This week is also crazy busy with school Christmas events, one special 5 year old's birthday and other events for the kids to wrap up the season before Christmas. I sound like I am complaining but rather just a bit overwhelmed. I know that everything will get done and it will all be wonderful! I am looking forward to one week from today - oh actually I guess yesterday now......

I wish I could take credit for these beautiful "gifts", but infact my cousin is the creator. I asked her if I could post them as I really thing they are beautiful. These glass blocks remind me a lot of her - a gift. It is true that you can choose your friends but not your family. Let me tell you God has blessed me with several wonderful people in my life, but this particular cousin has always had a special place in my heart. She is such a warm and wonderful person and it makes me so proud to call her family!!!!

At the Market I sold some of my crafts at I met a couple who own a Goat Cheese farm. We got chatting and they are really fun and wonderful people! I really enjoyed being next to them as it made the day a lot of fun. She asked if I could make her a block with the following saying on it. After a lot of searching I was even able to find a goat to put on top to finish it off. Thought it turned out pretty good!

These are a couple different Christmas Tree balls that I created. Each ball has a different saying on it. I think they are super fun to make and the glitter really sparkles in the light. They are beautiful! This was probably one of the best sellers at the market I attended. They are really great for personalizing!

Here are the advent calendars that I made for my kids.. They are so excited to open them up each day - they may have a little help from our kittens (hopefully not). Good thing there is no food in them. These muffin tins are great for holding small trinkets - lego, squinkies (without the ball), and other tiny items. A friend of mine is putting chocolate in a few days, coupons from her to her kids, family activities all on little notes - what a great idea!!!!!

Please leave me a note telling me what you would put in for your child OR if you gave it as a teachers gift with the muffin mix on Day 25....... I'd love to hear your suggestions!

October we didn't have a card class as our consultant - Cara - her son broke his arm. So Cara made these cards for each of us. So kind of her to do. I think she is pretty much one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She is very sincere, honest and loves to make cards. She is fantastic!!!!!

WHAT AM I THINKING? One thing I have to admit that is when I create, I do it for me. I know that I like most of what I do - but what about others? Through some of the stuff I have done people have said that I should look at selling it - cards, making scrapbooks, altered items, etc etc etc......Our small city has a new market that runs on weekends. I am going to set up a space there and sell my stuff starting next Sat. I TRULY need some honest feedback on what people think......would you buy it, what would you change, any other ideas????? This is just a very small start on what I am going to be doing. I will be doing cards mostly Christmas but a few birthday and other celebrations, the magnets, Christmas balls, glass blocks, teacher gifts, perhaps suckers with little covers, water bottles with the hangers......I am excited and scared at the same time - however.....Nothing Ventured.... Nothing Gained.

This is an angel that I bought which was just plain. I added a vinyl saying to her and I must say I am inlove with this product. Just curious - what would you pay for her?

She even has a light - although hard to see in the picture.
These are slate tiles that I made into coasters. Personally, I think they turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! I am so proud of them.
Here are 2 different pictures of the magnets (same magnets) that I created using SU paper. They are approximately 1 1/4" by 1 1/4". A super simple project.

This was a fun little card I made yesterday. I sometimes struggle to know how to use this buttons stamp set, but I am cool with how it turned out. Nothing fancy, just plain and simple. The lady that I am giving it to is the a very down to earth, straight forward and simple person (simple being a compliment). Hope she likes it.

I have been so focused on Christmas in the past few weeks I forgot I have a bunch of birthdays in the next little bit. I have 7 birthdays, 1 anniversary and a party to make invitations for in the next couple weeks. AWWWWW!!!!!! I started off making this for one of the birthdays but it turned out to masculine so I can't give it to who it was intended. All the birthday's are for children or women. I also have a Christmas card workshop on Monday that I am finishing preparing for, 2 calendars to make and one more advent calendar. Good thing my kids are off school for fall break next week.... I just may need the help. I sound like I am complaining, but I actually love this!!! Creating is what makes me tick.

I am so disappointed with the colour of this card on my camera. This card is such a beautiful card. The brick look like stone and the Cherry cobbler stockings are super cute. I have seen other versions of this card, but this is my take on it. It definately has some work put into it, but so worth the end result.

ribbon storage

I must say that ribbon storage is the most difficult thing in my scrapbook room for me. However, I think I found something that works. This was ribbon that was just in bins and I had no idea what I had - can't use it if you don't know you have it. So I tied it all loosely onto a hanger and put it up on a nail high on the wall. Leaving it anywhere low just made it into a cat toy. I also got some small shelves from Ikea and it houses my rolls. I finally got them all colour coordinated and I am now feeling confident that I can see what I had. Besides the fact that I have a ribbon obsession, this is going to keep me from buying what I already have. I have about 8 more rolls coming in the next couple days so I may have to make more room again.... I would love to hear how you store your ribbon.

Here are two cards that I won as a door prize in Millet. I am not sure what a the name of the technique is but it is very neat. You put down sticky strip that will fit under the lace ribbon. Put the lace ribbon over the sticky strip, poor over glitter and rub into the sticky strip. Pull ribbon off and poor another colour of glitter over and it will stick to the tape that was covered by the ribbon. It is such a cool effect.......I don't know who the lady was that created these cards, but if by some strange chance someone who reads this blog does, please let me know who she was.

I must say this is one of my favourite things that I have ever done and I can't even take credit for it. A friend of mine is a Stampin Up Demonstrator and they have a quarterly meeting that they can invite friends to. They have demos, make and takes, talk business BUT mostly we got to create this cute cute cute project. We used new paper and the advent calendar stamp set from the new Christmas Mini. The 24 cup mini muffin tin is from pampered chef. So you say, there is only 24 what about 25. Well, I haven't gotten that far yet but 25 is placed on a jar filled with muffin mix which can be made on Xmas morning. MMMMM fresh muffins.

This is a very dark picture of the card that I made for my son's kindergarten teachers. They are fantastic women and he was blessed to have them as teachers. With a few modifications it could easily be used as a sympathy card.

I had a really hard time getting the lights right on this card so it looks really dark. The colours are smokey plum and then olive coloured dsp from SU. The ribbon is a beautiful brilliant purple. This card is so sweet in person.

I saw a card very similar to this on Splitcoaststampers.com. This is my take on it. It is a great masculine card for ANY occassion. I find masculine cards to be the most challenging (right next to sympathy). This is truly one of my favourite masculine cards I have made. Please I would love to hear your comments....

Another sympathy card for the same family

Here is another sympathy card that I created tonight. I hope this is the last one that I need to do for a very long time. This has definately started out as a rough year in regards to deaths. Hopefully the rest of the year will look up!

Sadly, I have another sympathy card to do. Coming from a small town you always stay a part of each others lives in some form or fashion no matter how long you have been gone. The woman who died had cancer and left behind her husband, 4 children (and spouses) along with 14 grandchildren. She was only in her 60's and taken much to early. She was always active in our small community and a wonderful person to know.

I saw a similar card to this on splitcoaststampers and really like it so I tried my version of it. The flowers are from the March Word Puzzle stamp set from CTMH. The Thinking of You is also from a CTMH stamp set. The butterfly is from a diecut from SU. I then painted it with pearl paint from CTMH and finished it off with some pearls I got from dollarama.

This idea came from an email I got from the Urban Scrapbook in Edmonton, Alberta. The first is on how to make accordion flowers but it is the second tip that caught my attention. A great idea for ribbon storage that I never thought of. I always struggle with ideas that work for ribbon storage and thought this was brilliant! Just thought I would share.

96th birthday card

This is the third sympathy card that I made for the family involved in the avalanche tragedy. The Footprints saying is by far one of my favourites. I found a stamp at Micheal's and really love it. I found a similar card to this on Splitcoaststampers.com so that is what it is based off of. Hopefully I will have some happier cards in the next post.

Last week in Golden, BC there was 2 father's and their adult son's who were all snowmobiling in the back country. Unfortunately there was an avalanche and it killed both father's and one of the son's. The other son survived with minor injuries. All the people involved were from the small community where I grew up. This has certainly put my little village into mourning. The one great thing about small communities is that everyone rallies together to support one another. Both families are in my thoughts and prayers as they put the pieces back together. Sadly, this event has brought me to create more sympathy cards. I have 3 more and will post them over the next couple days.

I have tried several times over the years to create sympathy cards ahead of time but I find that each death is so personal to me and it deserves its own focus. Perhaps it is my way of closure. I would love to have your feedback on what you think.

I used CTMH colours but everything else was SU. I for some reason find SU stamps more appropriate for these occassions.

I got some bad news this week about a teacher of mine who passed away at the young age of 68. I grew up in a small town so even though he was my teacher, he was also a friend, a community volunteer and was at almost every event I can remember. Mr. Gridley was a great man and will be missed. His son was the same age as I was so needless to say we saw eachother a lot out and about. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Gridley family.

Rylan's birthday

Today we are celebrating my son's 6th birthday. I am not a fan of the typical plastic birthday loot bags so was wondering what else I could do. This is what I came up with. I just used a brown lunch bag and stamped the snowboard image with a thank you stamp as well. It is super easy. I didn't do anything to exciting as I know what is going to happen to it.

Thsi is an invitation I made for my son's 6th birthday party. He is gaga over guitars and he really likes blue. So this is what I came up with. A bit of a different idea. I find boy invitations a bit difficult as you don't want them to look like they were created for a girl. If you have any ideas or inspiration for boys invitations, I would love to see them.

Finally - I am almost back

This is my new scrapbook room. I haven't finished organizing it but I thought that I would show a picture of what is going on in my life right now. We got to move into our house on Dec 23 - yip right before Xmas. We were hosting so needless to say we shuffled, scurried and ran a lot those days before. It turned out just wonderful. We were admist boxes but the kitchen was set up and that is what we needed to worry about.

I love this room because I have everything I need at my fingertips. Yes there is a lot more organizing that I need to do (I didn't show below the table in this pic for a reason). I am really excited to get back to creating in this well lit and soon to be organized room. If you have ideas for organization - please let me know.

This is where all my albums and pictures are stored. I have a beautiful window to look out and even have a space for my little helper as you can see.

This is my view from my room. We live on such a quiet crescent. As you can see we have way more snow than we really need. However I live in Alberta and this is how it is! There is actually a road out here, but it is hard to see.

I promise that there will be more to come soon. Just bare with me while we continue to get organized. I must admit that I do have an itch to create though.

House update

Wow, I can't believe that Christmas is about a month away. We got our possession for our new house - Dec 24. Merry Christmas to us. Between now and then we will have to do some serious packing. Needless to say I will be away from my scrapbooking world until after the new year. In our new house I will have my own room for scrapbooking. I can't wait!!!! Please check back in January as I am so ready to get back to creating and posting on my blog often.

This is basically my own design - amazing isn't it? lol I love the background that I used the cuttlebug on (it is a sizzix folder). The white core of CTMH paper really shows through in this paper. I also love the sparkle of all the white on Santa. This is by far my favourite card.....

This is another card idea that I got out of papercraft magazine. I thought it was a cute idea. I used CTMH's jingle paper pack and A Timber stamp set. I made mine a little different than what was in the magazine but found it great inspiration.

Day 2 of workshop cards

These are 2 tags that I did. My complete inspiration for these came from Antoinette. I am so sorry I can't remember her blog right now, but as soon as I get it, I will definately post it. She has incredible ideas and is a brilliant creator. I hope you enjoy these. I know one of the ladies at my workshop felt they were more decoration than tags. She was actually going to hang them in her house. These tags use the CTMH October SOTM.

Christmas workshop

Over the next 5 days I will post Xmas cards that I have made for the workshop I did a week ago. This card was based on Vicki's card at the Wizard's Hangout. She is so talented.

Since my paper crafting stuff is mostly packed up, I was limited to what I had available to play with and create. So, unfortunately I mostly scraplifted ideas and made them my own. I love this card and even decorated a fun little envelope to go with it. There are 2 cards - one uses the Mistletoe paper pack and the other uses Jingle. Both cards use the A Timber stamp set from CTMH
